Coronavirus and Diabetes: COVID-19 Update

By now all of you ladies have heard there is a VERY contagious virus spreading all over the world called the coronavirus (COVID-19). There is NO vaccine or medication that will prevent coronavirus infection.

AND people with Diabetes, Heart Disease and other preexisting health problems are especially at risk for getting the coronavirus AND having serious complications AND 12x more likely to die from it.

There is no need to panic! But it will help you A LOT to know the facts and what you can do.

That's why you need to learn the symptoms of coronavirus, where to go for accurate coronavirus information and proven ways to help prevent infection and the spread of the virus.

We'll also tell you the most recent coronavirus scams (over 25 of them) that supposedly promise cures or prevention and other common coronavirus myths! (Yes, the anus scam and ice cream scam are real scam Coronavirus "cures".)


Coronavirus - Quick Facts

  • The coronavirus is a VERY contagious virus that is infecting people all over the world. (3x more contagious than the seasonal flu) 
  • Over 50 million people have gotten the virus.
  • The elderly, people with compromised immune systems, or those with preexisting sickness (like Diabetes, Heart Disease, Lung Disease or Obesity) are more likely to experience severe issues like pneumonia, organ failure or other more severe complications or death.
  • Over 80% of people who get the coronavirus experience mild flu symptoms...BUT! those with preexisting conditions frequently need to be hospitalized AND in some cases need to be put on a ventilator AND in some cases they can even die.
  • There are over 10 million cases of the coronavirus in the USA and there have been over 237,000 deaths. Millions of people have been tested.
  • The death rate for the coronavirus is much higher than the seasonal flu.
  • There is no vaccine for the coronavirus. Many are in development but none have been approved for the public.
  • On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus situation a world-wide pandemic.

Unfortunately, if you have a preexisting condition, like Diabetes, or Heart Disease, the death rate for the coronavirus is higher.

Coronavirus and Diabetes – A Bad Combination

Unfortunately, having Diabetes increases your risk for getting coronavirus.

Diabetes also increases your risk for severe coronavirus complications.

“All types of diabetes are independently associated with a significant increased risk of in-hospital death with COVID-19.”

Because people with Diabetes are at a greater risk for getting coronavirus, NOW is the time to be super, super, super, super, super, super, super focused on getting and staying healthy.

Getting & Staying Healthy to Help Prevent Coronavirus

You can help your body to be strong and ready to fight off the coronavirus germs! But you'll have to make an effort every day to make sure you do it!

Here's what you need to do:

  • Eat a high fiber diet full of whole foods (fruit, veggies, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds) and NO junk or sugary drinks. You can get help learning how to eat healthy here.
  • Get daily exercise, preferably outside. Exercise helps to build your immunity as does the Vitamin D from sunlight.
  • Get adequate sleep...7 to 8 hours every night on a consistent schedule.
  • Get help staying on track with being healthy here.

Nothing will guarantee you won't get the coronavirus, but boosting your immunity by eating healthy, getting exercise and getting proper sleep helps your body fight off all germs.

Coronavirus Symptoms

Coronavirus symptoms are very similar to the common cold and flu.

Symptoms can take 14 days to appear after you have been infected.

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Aches and pains including headaches
  • Sore throat
  • Feeling tired
  • Chills
  • Losing your sense of taste and smell
  • Some people also experience gastrointestinal symptoms (tummy ache, vomiting, diarrhea)

Difficulty breathing is another symptom of coronavirus.

If you have difficulty breathing, seek medical attention right away!

BUT warn your doctor or the hospital you are coming AND that you think you might have the coronavirus.

Your doctor may ask you to wear a mask or take other precautions.

IMPORTANT!!!! -  IF YOU ARE SICK --- DO NOT go to the emergency or your doctor WITHOUT telling them you are coming. (this will help prevent the spread of the virus).

Lowering Your Risk of Coronavirus Infection for Yourself and Others

You can lower your risk for getting the coronavirus or spreading it to others by adopting proven flu prevention strategies.

Wash hands prevent coronavirus
  • Wash your hands with soap and water frequently (for at least 20 seconds). Learn how to wash your hands here.
  • Keep your unwashed hands away from your eyes, mouth, ears and nose
  • Throw out used tissues and then immediately wash your hands with soap and water
  • If you have to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with your arm...NOT your hand
  • Stay home if you're sick or think you might be
  • Do not visit people in hospitals, care homes, infants or the elderly if you're sick or think you might be
  • If you're sick or think you might be, avoid areas with large groups of people (shopping malls, events, airports, churches, daycares, schools, etc.)
  • DO NOT take public transit if you're sick or think you night be
  • Wear a mask in crowded public places

Health officials are now recommending that: 
-people over 60

-pregnant women
-those with pre-existing conditions (like Prediabetes)

avoid large groups, travel and public transit AND STAY AT HOME.

Be Prepared!

You or a loved one may get the coronavirus and have to stay at home in isolation, so:

  • Make sure you have 2 week's supply of non-perishable foods (beans, dried pasta, canned soups, whole grains)
  • Make sure you have at least 2 week's worth of household items like toilet paper, tissues, laundry soap, pet food and feminine hygiene products
  • Make sure you have at least 2 to 3 week's supply of any medications you're taking
  • Make sure you have a supply of disinfectants to clean household surfaces
  • Make sure you have copies of your health records

Trustworthy Sources of Coronavirus Information

There is a LOT of coronavirus info on the internet that is false.

There are also hundreds of conspiracy theories predicting doom and gloom, encouraging citizens to unite AGAINST their government, scientists, doctors and the World Health Organization. (don't be foolish and fall for this scam)

There's also millions of scam "coronavirus cures" on Facebook, Amazon and the internet too.

Make sure you're getting your information from reliable sources! (Not from ads selling stuff!)

These 5 sources are reliable sources of coronavirus info and most are being updated almost on a daily basis:

Don't be foolish!

  • Conspiracy theory videos predicting the end of freedom and mass vaccinations
  • Blog posts from people who do NOT work in the health care field
  • Emails from strangers or your crazy uncle
  • Youtube videos from "citizen scientists or citizen journalists" 
  • And Facebook posts from people saying the coronavirus is no different than the seasonal flu...

ARE NOT reliable sources of information.

Don't  be foolish and spread around false information

(a loved one could die from your foolish advice)

Wearing a mask protects other people from YOUR germs. Their mask PROTECTS YOU.

When you can NOT social distance (6 feet apart)...wear a mask.

The coronavirus germs travel through the air when a sick person breaths, talks, coughs or sneezes. This is how the coronavirus is passed to other people.

The coronavirus germs can also transfer to you if you touch something that has the coronavirus germs on it (like a door handle).

Coronavirus Bogus Cures and Fake News

Don't be fooled by people tying to sell you junk or "secret" techniques that will supposedly prevent you from getting the coronavirus or cure you.

There is NO specific food or other product you can eat or drink to prevent or cure coronavirus.

There is NOTHING you can put on your body or expose yourself to that will prevent or cure coronavirus.
