November is Diabetes Awareness month. That's why we want to make sure you have the latest facts about Diabetes and know what to do if you have it AND how to avoid getting it in the first place. We'll also talk about Prediabetes in case you're Prediabetic.

Type 2 Diabetes is a disease that affects hundreds of millions of people in the world.

It's a terrible disease that robs you of years of your life and increases your risk for having a heart attack and or stroke. 

65% of Diabetics will die from a heart attack or stoke, so this is serious stuff!

How Many People in the World Have Diabetes?

Hundreds of millions of people in the world have Diabetes.

Million People In the World Have Diabetes

People from all countries are affected by Diabetes. Children, teenagers, working age people and senior citizens have Diabetes.

90% of all cases of Diabetes are Type 2 Diabetes.

The remaining 5 to 10% are Type 1 Diabetes and other types of Diabetes.

Most cases of Type 2 Diabetes are preventable by making lifestyle and diet changes (more on that below).

Millions of Other People Have Prediabetes!

Prediabetes is when you have glucose intolerance but it's not quite bad enough to be diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetes.

About 70% of Prediabetics go on to get Type 2 Diabetes if they don't make significant lifestyle changes and changes to their diet.

What Are the Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes?

Most people experience symptoms before they get diagnosed with Diabetes.

BUT! Some people don't feel or notice anything different!

If you think you might have Type 2 Diabetes, you need to go to a doctor and ask to be tested right away.

(You can have the same symptoms with Prediabetes too.)

Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms: 


You can have some or all of these symptoms when you have Type 2 Diabetes. Prediabetes has the same symptoms too:

  • Fee​ling very thirsty all the time
  • Feeling very hungry all the time
  • Feeling frequent nausea
  • Peeing all the time
  • Feeling very irritated all the time
  • Frequent skin infections
  • Dark patches of skin
  • Sudden weight change (gain or loss)
  • Feeling VERY tired all the time
  • Having trouble seeing (blurry vision)
  • Getting sick a lot and taking a long time to get better
  • Cuts and bruises take a long time to heal
  • Frequent yeast infections
  • Frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Your breath smells like fruit all the time
  • Your hands or feet feel all tingly or numb
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome and or infertility (women)

How Do You Know if You Have Diabetes?

A simple blood test will tell the doctor if you have Diabetes.

Based on your test results you may have Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes.

Blood Test Diabetes Prediabetes

Type 2 Diabetes Blood Test Results (all countries)

Fasting Blood Glucose: over 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L)

A1C: 6.5% or higher

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test: 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher

Prediabetes Blood Test Results (USA)

Fasting Blood Glucose: 100 - 125 mg/dL 

A1C: 5.7% to 6.4%

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test: 140 - 200 mg/dL

Can Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes Be Reversed?

Prediabetes can be reversed! 

Type 2 Diabetes can sometimes be reversed or at least the serious complications delayed.

But! You'll have to work at it! (we can help you with that!)

The best way to make your Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes go away (and stay away) is to:

Ladies! Diabetes is a serious disease AND it's far too risky to leave your future to chance.

Having a heart attack or a stroke or kidney disease or going blind or having part of your leg amputated is horrific and terrible...both for you and your family members.

So you need to take action to make sure these things don't happen to you.
